When I replaced my 2007 Lariat 4x4 F-150 with a 2010 Lariat SuperCrew 4x4 F150 one of the first things I wanted to do was get new CIPA tow mirrors which I used religiously when towing with the old truck. The problem was that per the CIPA website they didn't make the mirrors for the new body styly (2009 - 2010) F150s yet. I was tempted to order OEM tow mirrors from Ford but I really didn't want the huge mirrors on my truck all the time when I only tow a few times a year. Besides, tow mirrors were going to cost me just under $400 and I really wanted to avoid that if possible. I called CIPA and was happy to hear that the same mirrors (CIPA Part # 11800) would fit the new body style and only required a new wedge style. CIPA kindly agreed to ship me the new wedges for $8.00 USD to cover the shipping and handling. Perfect! It took 3 weeks and two attempts to ship before CIPA got it right but finally the new wedges showed up and I figured I would post the details here. The CIPA tow mirrors slid right onto my OEM 2010 F150 mirrors with ease and seemed to fit well. Now it was time to check out the new wedges. Here's a comparison of the old wedge and new wegde. You can see that because the new style F150 mirror has a taller post (connector to the truck) the old wedge simply wouldn't work. So this new wedge fit the contour of the mirror and once inserted provided a very snug fit.
While the hassle involved with getting CIPA to finally ship me the correct wedges was a pain in the end it was worth it. The new wedges allow my trusty CIPA towing mirrors to fit my new truck perfectly and provide me the visibility I need when towing my 25 foot RV. I'll close with a shot of my truck with the tow mirrors installed on my last camping trip. Thanks for checking in and if you have any questions don't hesitate to let me know. Good luck in whatever you decide for yourself and I hope this helped! |
